Mahalia is officially complete! She is strung up and her strings are settling nicely. All that’s left is the strummin’ and singin’!

Mahalia is moving along now and we’ll be closing up her box tomorrow. Her fretboard has been radiused and we’ll slot it tomorrow. We are in the final stretch.

Mahalia is moving through the shop. Her sides are bent, blocked and kerfed. Next up we’ll be shaping her neck and bracing her Redwood soundboard.
This ukulele was named for Mahalia Jackson. Mahalia Jackson (1911 – 1972) was an American gospel singer. Possessing a powerful contralto voice, she was referred to as “The Queen of Gospel”. She became one of the most influential gospel singers in the world and was heralded internationally as a singer and civil rights activist.
